Earthy Stone

Jasper, whose name is derived from the Greek phrase for spotted stone, belongs to the quartz family. Due to the fact that its makeup can comprise up to 20% foreign materials, jasper beads have a densely multicolored, striped, and spotted appearance. An earthy stone, jasper contains all the qualities we find in nature. Reds, greens, browns, blues, and virtually any other hue imaginable merge together to form a uniquely beautiful addition to your craft or jewelry project.

Ancient Use

The current Tibetan birthstone for the month of October and a traditional birthstone for the month of March, jasper has a long history of artistic and symbolic use across a wide variety of cultures. Jasper was used to make bow drills—used in ancient fire starting devices—in what is now Pakistan around 6500 years ago.

A popular gem of the ancient world, it was used by the Greeks to carve signet rings and seals. Ancient Egyptians used jasper in their burial rituals, carving amulets from jasper filled with inscriptions and images from the Book of the Dead. Native Americans prized the stone as a rain giver, and some speculate that the apostle Peter derived his name from the stone, a symbol for the rock upon which Christ would build his church.

Many Properties

Some of the many properties associated with jasper are the alleviation of stress and the calming of energies. An elemental stone, it is steady and constant. It is said to minimize negativity and to help inspire a tranquil state of being. Sometimes called the supreme nurturer, jasper beads can be used to re-energize the body and generally aid the wearer through difficult times and situations. It is even thought of as a fertility stone and conduit for a happy pregnancy.

Its earthy qualities create awareness of nature and the natural world, allowing one to be more present in the moment. It promotes and encourages contemplation, introspection, and connectedness in all living things.

Many Styles

Our jasper beads are offered in a plethora of sizes, styles, and, of course, colors. We proudly offer jasper in zebra coin beads, dalmatian square beads, plain round beads, leopard skin beads, multifaceted nugget beads, and more.
